Just four months after graduating from Carnegie Mellon University, Corey Cott is making his Broadway debut in Newsies. Despite being new to the business Cott, who takes over the lead role of Jack Kelly on September 5, was already turning down other high profile job opportunities for Newsies, including a shot at joining the cast of Glee.
"There was a chance of Glee," Cott told Broadway.com. "I was going to go test to be a new series regular. I hadn’t booked it or anything. The way testing works, either you’re in or you’re out because if you test and you book it, you’re automatically in. So I had to make a decision about whether I wanted to go do that, and possibly have to turn down [Newsies] without even a choice, or not do it at all. I felt safer and much more excited about taking [Newsies]."
Check back on Broadway.com on September 6 for a full Fresh Face interview with Cott, and catch him in Newsies at the Nederlander Theatre.
